Neurodegenerative diseases are among the most complex and costly challenges in healthcare today. In the UK, over one million people are living with neurodegenerative conditions. The most prevalent are dementia (affecting 850,000+ people) and Parkinson’s disease (approximately 127,000–140,000). Alongside conditions such as Huntington’s disease, motor neurone disease (MND) and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), these illnesses represent a significant and growing health burden, with an estimated annual cost of more than £26 billion. Globally, more than 55 million people are affected, and that number is expected to rise sharply over the coming decades.*
What’s changing is how we approach it.
